The Kansas City Royals suffered a setback on Saturday.
Royals Announce Jac Caglianone News After Leaving Guardians Game originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
Los Angeles Dodgers superstar Shohei Ohtani is the only two-way player in baseball right now, but Kansas City Royals outfielder Jac Caglianone is one of his few peers who could challenge him on that front.
Caglianone was a pitcher, first baseman, and outfielder for the Florida Gators in college before getting selected No. 6 overall by the Royals in the 2024 MLB Draft. The Florida native didn't pitch in the minors, but he advanced to the big leagues in just one year as a position player. The Royals called him up on June 2 of this season, and he hit his first MLB home run on June 19 against the Texas Rangers, which also became his first multi-homer game.
Caglianone could add pitching back to his repertoire, but he needs to stay healthy. Kansas City made an announcement about the rookie after he left Saturday's game against the Cleveland Guardians early, via The Kansas City Star's Jaylon Thompson.
"Royals announce Jac Caglianone exited the game with left hamstring tightness," he reported.
Caglianone was slashing just .148/.206/.282 with five homers and 10 RBI over 40 games entering the contest. The 22-year-old went on a four-game hitting streak before going 0-for-5 against the Chicago Cubs on Wednesday.

The Royals entered Saturday nine games behind the Detroit Tigers for first place in the AL Central and 1.5 games behind the Guardians for second. They were also four games behind the Boston Red Sox for the AL's third Wild Card spot.
Kansas City and Cleveland will finish their doubleheader on Saturday night.
