The Vikings have finally reached an agreement with safety Josh Metellus, who was the talk of the town as the team kicked off its training camp on Tuesday.
The 27-year-old was in the final year of the two-year, $8 million contract extension he signed in 2023. He was a limited participant in the OTAs and mandatory minicamp. Although the Vikings' head coach, Kevin O'Connell, assured that the safety would be a full participant in the training camp, there was a lot of speculation about his future.
Vikings GM Kwesi Adofo-Mensah revealed that the two parties had a great dialogue ahead of the training camp. Metellus has inked a contract extension with the Vikings only a few days later.

After the first day of the training camp, Metellus said he was not bothered by his contract situation, but this deal would certainly boost his morale.
The Vikings drafted Metellus at No. 205 overall in the 2020 NFL Draft. Metellus barely saw the field his first three years in Minnesota, starting just three games. But ever since Brian Flores took over, the former sixth-rounder has started 27 games and has racked up over 1,000 snaps in just two seasons.
Metellus has been an invaluable piece for the Vikings in recent years. While he sees himself primarily as a safety, his versatility has allowed him to line up in more than 10 different roles, contributing both as a pass rusher and in coverage.
