Virginia Outdoor Sportsman Show, 3-day event: Seminars, vendors, demos, contests

42nd annual event fun for all ages, 12 and under free admission: Kids fishing pond, duck decoy painting, canine entertainment, big game contest, more

Virginia's largest outdoor sportsman show takes place at the Richmond Raceway Complex on August 1, 2 and 3. At the 42nd annual Virginia Outdoor Sportsman Show [VOSS], ticket holders may attend seminars, learn from experts, meet outdoor personalities, talk to guides and outfitters and touch and feel products.

The VOSS caters to all facets of the outdoors, fulfilling the diverse needs of attendees. These include hunting rifles, hunting gear, turkey calls, duck calls, hunting outfitters, fishing charters, the latest lures, rods, apparel, hunting properties and more.

Kenneth Lancaster of "The Given Right" will provide a first-time seminar. In 2009, Lancaster joined up with the "Bone Collector" team and long-time friend, Michael Waddell. To this day, he remains as one of only two pro staff members on the "Bone Collector" team. Additionally, Lancaster has appeared as a guest on an impressive lineup of shows including "Realtree Roadtrips," "Bone Collector," "Monster Bucks," and "Swamp People."

Wyatt Judy of Prince William strikes a pose with Chesterfield resident Hugh Crittenden, Virginia Outdoor Sportsman Show creator and owner of 33 years. The 10-year-old entered his first deer in the Virginia Big Game Contest at the 2024 show.

Virginia’s largest big game contest returns this year. The 86th annual Virginia Big Game Contest is hosted by Virginia Peninsula Sportsmen’s Association [VPSA]. At the VOSS, see the biggest bucks taken in Virginia. Deer, bear and turkey are judged. This is the only state-sanctioned contest in the state of Virginia. Certified judges from VPSA and the Virginia Department of Wildfire Resources [DWR] will award and host the Western Regional, Eastern Regional and State Championship all under one roof.

The VPSA will take entries on August 1 from noon to 6 p.m., August 2 from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. Absolutely no entries will be accepted after 4 p.m. on August 2. All entries will be returned on August 3 following the awards ceremony that begins at 3 p.m.

State citations will also be given by the VPSA and DWR for qualifying entries. Visit vpsa.org for the list of official rules. If you have questions, call VPSA President Mike Jones at 757-371-3335 or e-mail [email protected]. There will also be a VPSA scholarship announcement at the show. The winners will be invited to VOSS to receive their scholarships.
