Former Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers has shown improvement at recent Miami Dolphins training camp practices.
MIAMI GARDENS ― After a slow start, Miami Dolphins rookie quarterback Quinn Ewers has shown improvement in recent practices.
"Quinn Ewers is doing great," Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel said before the fifth training camp practice. "Rookie, rookies develop at different speeds. But regardless of their development, you know, I think with Quinn, it starts with, you know, a quarterback's a leader of men. And he has, you can tell he has a, there's a personality trait within him that really teammates gravitate to."
Ewers, a former Texas quarterback, slipped to the seventh round because of some inconsistent footwork and decision-making and some injuries in college.
Ewers seemed inconsistent early in camp, but has appeared to gain confidence.

"I mean, it's embedded in failure," McDaniel said of rookie quarterback play. "You mess something up to learn something and you guys kind of get quiet and lose their confidence. Quinn has learned, very smart, really starting to grasp timing and stuff."
Ewers has a quick release, which should align with Miami's timing-based offense.
In recent practices, Ewers has been on-time often and showed the ability to execute impressive ball placement. And his anticipation is improving.
To be clear, veteran Zach Wilson is the clear backup to Tua Tagovailoa.
Ewers is a developmental prospect who is at least as likely to begin this season on Miami's practice squad as roster.

But Ewers, 6-foot-2, 209 pounds, is clearly now progressing.
"I think those guys are all pushing each other to grow as players," McDaniel said. And I think, realistically, Quinn's development is all him, but it's as much as coaching and from the quarterback coaches and Zach and Tua (Tagovailoa) as well. They're creating a good environment that he has to keep up with because the other two are rolling."
