Chelsea are closing in on completing their eighth summer signing after Kendry Paez, Mamadou Sarr, Dario Essugo, Estevao, Liam Delap, Joao Pedro, and Jamie Gittens.
Chelsea are reportedly closing in on their eighth signing of the summer as they move toward a deal for Ajax defender Jorrel Hato.
The 19-year-old Dutch international is said to have agreed personal terms with the Blues, leaving only the transfer fee to be finalized between the clubs.
Hato has been on Chelsea’s radar for weeks, and talks with Ajax have slowly gathered pace. As per the The Athletic, the West London club appears confident of reaching a compromise over the asking price, which could exceed £35 million.
Ajax, who only tied Hato to a five-year contract in 2023, aren’t in a hurry to sell but understand the player’s desire to step up.
The talented youngster has already made 111 appearances for Ajax and even worn the captain’s armband.
He played mainly as a left-back last season but can also slot in as a center-back — a flexibility that suits Enzo Maresca’s tactical style.

Chelsea, who have already added Liam Delap, Joao Pedro, Jamie Gittens, and others this window, are clearly building for both the present and future.
Hato’s arrival would add another exciting layer to that project.
How Jorrel Hato could fit in Chelsea squad?
While Hato may not walk straight into the starting XI, his versatility makes him a useful option. With Marc Cucurella and Levi Colwill already trusted in key roles, Hato would likely begin as a rotational player.
At just 19, that’s not a bad place to be. Playing backup at a top Premier League club can offer valuable experience — especially if injuries or form open the door.
With Maresca expected to rotate often, Hato should get chances to impress.
Hato is comfortable on the ball, a strong passer, and not shy going forward. Though he still needs to grow physically, he has shown solid defensive instincts and reads the game well.
Chelsea fans might not see him dominate aerial duels just yet, but he’s more than capable of holding his own.
