Josh Hines-Allen made a huge announcement about his seven-year-old son, Wesley, on Friday, who was diagnosed with leukemia seven months ago. The Jaguars' defensive end and his wife, Kaitlyn, shared a heartwarming update about their son's cancer battle.
The two-time Pro Bowler missed Jacksonville's final regular-season game last season due to a personal issue. Hines-Allen revealed that his son's concerning health was the reason behind it.
The veteran DE posted a video on his X(formerly Twitter) handle to open up about Wesley's cancer journey and launch a campaign to support pediatric cancer research and care. Hines-Allen revealed that his son has nearly defeated leukemia.
"Knowing potentially that it could be leukemia, he had to call and inform his head coach that perhaps he's gonna miss the last game of the season," Kaitlyn said.
The couple revealed that Wesley's gums started bleeding, and he caught a fever ahead of the season finale. When it didn't get better, they took him to the hospital, where they were told that their son had leukemia.
"It just kinda hit me and nothing else mattered," Hines-Allen said. "It was a six-month treatment phase."
The doctor told the pair that it would be a long journey, and Wesley would have to get tested regularly for the next 21 years.
"Wesley is doing great. He's swimming every day. He's running around. He's playing sports," Kaitlyn said.
