Dodgers sign Missouri football’s QB to contract, creating a two-sport balance after MLB Draft

This is intriguing for the Dodgers and the Mizzou Tigers.

The Los Angeles Dodgers just signed an SEC quarterback to a contract.

Now what?

MLB Network's Jim Callis reports that the Dodgers inked Sam Horn to a $497,500 signing bonus after drafting him in the 17th round.

It's a potential coup, because Callis writes that Horn has "first-round stuff (fastball touches 98mph, mid-80s sweeper)."

Horn has only pitched 15 innings in three college seasons due to Tommy John surgery.

And yeah, he's a quarterback at Missouri.

Callis reports that Horn will play football this fall before potentially starting his professional baseball career.

Horn is listed by the depth chart website Ourlads as Mizzou's second-string QB as the season approaches.

It appears his pro future is certainly in baseball, but it's definitely cool for a Dodgers signee to be playing a college football season first.

Maybe there's some injury risk, but it's a solid gesture by L.A. to let Horn finish this portion of his life out first.
