A major position battle taking place at Las Vegas Raiders training camp just received a major update.
The Las Vegas Raiders wrapped up their first week of training camp on Sunday, and it looks like nobody in the cornerback room has separated themselves in the position battle.
Las Vegas is holding a competition for both starting cornerback spots on the boundary. According to Levi Edwards of Raiders.com, Darien Porter, Decamerion Richardson, Eric Stokes and Jakorian Bennett are competing for the roles.
However, the position is still wide open as the opening week of camp comes to an end.
"The cornerback position is wide open too, with Darien Porter, Decamerion Richardson, Eric Stokes and Jakorian Bennett all shuffling between first and second-team reps," Edwards wrote.
The cornerback room is considered a weak spot for the Raiders, but defensive coordinator Patrick Graham gave them a vote of confidence.
We've got a good collective of a good group of fast, long guys," Graham said on Sunday after practice. "And then tomorrow we'll get to the physicality part in terms of seeing who's going to be able to support the run, get their hands on people in press. I'm encouraged."
As camp continues, the corners will be the position to watch on defense. Darien Porter, the team's No.68 overall pick in April's draft, has a good shot of earning significant playing time in his rookie year after a dominant 2024 campaign at Iowa State.
Jakorian Bennett is coming off a promising second season in 2024 and figures to play a pivotal role on the defense. Eric Stokes, who signed a one-year deal with Las Vegas this offseason, could also be a starter due to his 32 games of starting experience with the Green Bay Packers.
Decamerion Richardson could also be a potential impact player, as he started seven games in his rookie season last year and tallied 46 tackles.
