Saints predicted to replace Spencer Rattler, Tyler Shough with do-it-all, 70-TD ACC QB

The New Orleans Saints don't have a proven QB on their roster. This could very well lead them to trading for another ACC QB in next year's draft.

Spencer Rattler

The New Orleans Saints enter training camp with one of the most questionable quarterback rooms in the NFL. Three players are battling for the starting job, but there’s no clear favorite at this point. Head coach Kellen Moore is giving all three signal-callers equal reps in camp as he evaluates who will lead the offense.

Tyler Shough, the Saints' second-round pick, has made a strong early impression. During OTAs, Moore had high praise for the rookie quarterback, noting his football IQ and experience.

“Tyler's experience, certainly there's value to that," said Kellen Moore. "You can see it in the classroom aspect of this thing. His ability to process football at a very easy rate in the classroom. It's really, really good when you throw him up there and you're watching film and you're talking about plays and concepts. He's got great exposure, and he's got great experiences that he can lean on.”

Shough’s contract situation lingered for a while, as he pushed for the entire deal to be guaranteed. He didn’t officially sign with the Saints until just days before training camp began.

Given how uncertain the quarterback situation is in New Orleans, it’s possible the team could look to draft another quarterback in 2026. Sayre Bedinger of NFL Spin Zone believes Clemson’s Cade Klubnik could be their future target.

“There’s no question that the New Orleans Saints have one of the ugliest quarterback situations in the NFL right now. The good news for New Orleans is that they’ve got younger guys with some upside, although they did use a second-round pick on one of the oldest QB prospects to come along in quite some time (Tyler Shough, will be 26 this season),” Bedinger wrote.

Klubnik has made noticeable progress each season under Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney and is aiming to lead the Tigers on a deep playoff run before declaring for the NFL Draft. If the Saints don’t find their answer this season, they may very well find it in Klubnik next year.
