Is Raiders' Jackson Powers-Johnson in danger of losing starting spot?

Las Vegas Raiders center Jackson Powers-Johnson may not have his starting spot locked up.

Jackson Powers-Johnson is expected to serve as the starting center for the Las Vegas Raiders in 2025. However, it looks like the team isn't just going to hand him the starting role.

According to multiple reports from Raiders' practice on Sunday, Powers-Johnson was taking most of the second-team reps at center, with Jordan Meredith running with starters.

"Raiders center Jackson Powers-Johnson is playing with the 2s during team period," ESPN's Ryan McFadden wrote on X.

"Jordan Meredith playing center with the 1s just like on Friday," McFadden also added.

Powers-Johnson has the versatility to play multiple positions and is by far the best interior offensive lineman on the roster, so it's a bit surprising that Las Vegas has him taking snaps with the backups.

Meredith serving as the starter at center in some practices may be for chemistry purposes in case Powers-Johnson gets hurt and the veteran is thrust into game action. However, it could also mean that there is a competition for the starting spot that no one saw coming.

Nevertheless, it would be shocking if Powers-Johnson isn't a starter on the Raiders' offensive line this year and for years to come. The 2024 second-round pick posted a promising rookie campaign, and is too valuable to keep on the bench.
