The New York Yankees and Colorado Rockies made a trade.
Eugenio Suarez Receives Update After Yankees-Rockies Trade originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
The New York Yankees have been in the market for a third baseman almost all season. After Oswaldo Cabrera went down with a season-ending leg injury, the Yankees were left searching for answers at the hot corner.
In recent weeks, New York has been linked to several high-profile third baseman on the MLB trade market. The top name has been Arizona Diamondbacks slugger Eugenio Suarez, who enters the weekend fourth in baseball with 36 home runs.
On Thursday, the Yankees were again linked to Suarez by Andy Martino of SNY, who reported the Diamondbacks have been "all over" New York's farm system in preparation for a potential blockbuster deal.
However, on Friday it became clear that Suarez will not be headed to the Yankees. It has been reported by several MLB insiders, including Jeff Passan of ESPN, that New York is instead acquiring Colorado Rockies third baseman Ryan McMahon.
"The New York Yankees are acquiring third baseman Ryan McMahon in a trade with the Colorado Rockies, sources confirm to ESPN," Passan began. "The deal, which is in its final stages, gives the Yankees the left-handed bat they were seeking and fills the gaping hole they had at third base."

This trade provides a substantial update for Suarez, who now at least knows he will not be headed to the Yankees.
"The Yankees had strong interest in Diamondbacks 3B Eugenio Suarez, but McMahon is under contract through 2027 at $16 million a year in 2026 and 2027," Bob Nightengale of USA Today wrote on X. "Suarez is a free agent in three months."
Jared Carrabis of Underdog added, "Eugenio Suárez, you are NOT a New York Yankee."

The Yankees have now been crossed off this list, but the market for Suarez remains robust.
