Steph Curry may be in the twilight of his career, but the Golden State Warriors clearly aren’t ready to ride off into the sunset just yet. With time ticking, Golden State seems determined to make the most of these final years with their superstar, and they’re making moves to stay in the title hunt.
Adding Jimmy Butler was already a big statement, but the front office knows the Warriors are still a piece or two away from seriously chasing that elusive eighth ring. Now, the latest name being linked to the team? Let’s just say it’s one that could shake the entire league.

While the Warriors have had a quiet offseason on the surface, behind the scenes they’re staying ready, and a lot of that has to do with one big name: Giannis Antetokounmpo. No, nothing’s official, and Antetokounmpo hasn’t asked out of Milwaukee (yet), but the Warriors are keeping their options open in case that door cracks open, according to veteran Bay Area journalist Tim Kawakami of The San Francisco Standard.
One move they’re considering? Re-signing Jonathan Kuminga to a multiyear deal not just to keep him, but to use him as a valuable trade piece if Giannis suddenly becomes available. Kuminga’s youth and upside make him an attractive piece for any team looking to reset.
So while the Warriors aren’t making huge headlines right now, they’re quietly laying the groundwork.
If Antetokounmpo decides he wants to join forces with Steph and Draymond Green in the Bay, Golden State wants to be ready to strike. They may not have the most assets, but they’re planning like a team that expects a shot.
