Patrick Mahomes teaming up with Florida Gators quarterback DJ Lagway and NFL legend Rob Gronkowski for a recent T-Mobile commercial had social media buzzing, but it was Travis Kelce’s fiery reaction on Instagram that added more attention to the collab.
Kelce shared several fire emojis reacting to the IG reel where Mahomes, Gronk and Lagway were seated on bleachers trading stories about the spirit of high school football and how, in Mahomes' words, "it's all about the love for the game."
The caption to the video reads, "Friday Night 5G Lights isn’t just about high school football. It’s about pride, purpose, and showing up for your community. Get your school to apply at FridayNight5GLights.com #FN5GL"
Lagway, the promising rising star quarterback at the University of Florida, recently inked a lucrative NIL (Name, Image, and Likeness) deal with T-Mobile. Lagway, who’s already generating substantial hype heading into the Gators' highly anticipated 2025 season, is considered one of the most exciting talents in the SEC.
At the recent SEC Media Days, coaches and analysts alike praised his strong arm, leadership, and dynamic playmaking ability, positioning him as a potential breakout star who could help restore Florida football to championship contention after he jumped into the starting lineup last year when Graham Mertz was injured early in the season.
When asked to describe what he brings to the table during SEC Media Days, Lagway said it's mostly about his vibe.
“I guess my aura, confidence, and just the way I portray myself on game day,” Lagway said. “My teammates always joke around… They say that I’m a totally different person on game day. It kind of oozes out of me.”
Kelce and Mahomes are no strangers to collaborations, having previously worked together on commercials and events. However, this new partnership with Lagway marks another intriguing instance of NFL stars joining forces with top college talent, highlighting the evolving landscape of NIL deals and endorsements in sports. Mahomes' existing T-Mobile endorsement made him the perfect mentor figure for Lagway’s debut ad appearance.
The Gators are eager to rebound after recent challenging seasons, and expectations are high with Lagway at the helm, aiming for a return to national prominence.
