The Denver Post shares curveball hint on Colorado Buffaloes football coach Deion Sanders’ most important decision

Colorado Buffaloes football coach Deion Sanders may roll with Julian Lewis as his starting quarterback for the 2025 season in Boulder.

Colorado Buffaloes football coach Deion Sanders has been purposely ambiguous about who he’ll start at quarterback during the 2025 season.

While conventional wisdom would suggest that Liberty Flames transfer Kaidon Salter is set to get the QB1 role, the Denver Post’s Sean Keeler spoke on the subject as though Carrollton, Georgia, product Julian Lewis has a legitimate chance to win.

“The Buffs start preseason camp Monday. The season opener against Georgia Tech under the lights at Folsom Field is just a month away. After two years of watching a Heisman Trophy winner (Travis Hunter) and the best passing QB ever at CU (Shedeur Sanders) take a chainsaw to Boulder’s record books, the Buffs could be handing the keys to a teenager,” Keeler wrote.

“Coach Prime started Lewis, who’s just 17, with the first-team offense at CU’s spring game a few months back.”

Keeler’s whole piece was focused on former Buffs signal-callers sharing their outlook on their careers, but several, like Steven Montez and Sefo Liufau, discussed the beginning of their careers.

That was most certainly not aimed at the upperclassman Salter. Lewis is the subject of articles before ever suiting up for a non-Black and Gold scrimmage.

From everything we know, Lewis is being heavily invested in by CU. Shedeur Sanders deemed him his only worthy successor. His NIL salary is seven figures. Lewis even has his own burger, “Juju's Precision Pass Burger,” at the Sink restaurant in Boulder.

Why not believe Keeler’s idea that Lewis has a chance? That no starter has been named, despite Salter’s massive experience advantage, is a good reason to believe it.
