Dayot Upamecano suffers illness, absent from Bayern Munich lineup

FC Bayern is without a key starter in the Champions League.

Bayern Munich released its lineup and there was one notable omission — center-back Dayot Upamecano.

Upamecano, who is embroiled in contract talks with his deal set to expire this summer, is out of action due to an illness. In his stead, Kim Min-jae will take the lineup spot next to Germany international Jonathan Tah on the backline:

After releasing the lineup, Bayern Munich posted the news about Upamecano’s sickness:

Kim has been in fine form of late, so there should be little drop off vs. Union Saint-Gilloise in the Champions League at center-back. Meanwhile, there were some other interesting changes to the starting XI as well with Tom Bischof, Raphaël Guerreiro, Joshua Kimmich, Aleksandar Pavlović, and Lennart Karl all getting the nod.

It remains to be seen who will start at the outside-back positions. It would seem that Guerriero and Kimmich would be the two most logical candidates, but Bayern Munich head coach Vincent Kompany does not always operate by the book.

Stay tuned…
