No. 22 Florida State men’s tennis takes on No. 11 Arizona this afternoon in Tempe:

Last season, Jan Sebesta teamed up with alumni Jami Connel to storm out to an early lead and quickly won the first doubles match 6-1 on court three. Erik Schiessl and Joshua Dous-Karpenschief delivered some well-timed shots to put away the match at 7-5 and win the doubles point.

The Seminoles had early first set leads across courts two through five before Arizona was able to outlast and win five first sets in singles play. Arizona was able to clinch the match after four consecutive singles victories.

Florida State has begun the 2026 season at 5-0 with several key singles and doubles wins. No. 83 Mohammad Alkotop and Azariah Rusher have shown impressive doubles run together with a 4-0 overall record heading into Wednesday’s matchups.

Transfer Gabriele Brancetelli won his first doubles match as a Seminole alongside Sebesta on Thursday over Leon Harder and Juan Die Rojas of the College of Charleston 6-1, before earning his first singles victory under Florida State against Rojas Mora in a 6-2, 6-2 win.

Alkotop and Rusher were named the ACC Doubles Team of the Week:

Alkotop and Rusher started their week against the College of Charleston on Thursday in the Seminoles’ 7-0 sweep, beating Jakub Solarski and Eddie Vo 6-2 on court two. In singles play, Rusher extended the Seminoles lead to 3-0 after a two-set victory against Solarski, while Alkotop added a win of his own in a three-set match against Jake Smith.

The pair concluded their weekend in a doubleheader against Alabama State and The Citadel on Sunday. Alkotop and Rusher started the day on court two against the Hornets with a commanding 6-1 victory, before earning their second doubles victory of the day against the Citadel with a 6-2 win to clinch the doubles point for FSU.

Florida State indoor track and field student-athletes Nafy Thiam and Shenese Walker were named ACC Performers of the Week:

Thiam was named the Rookie of the Week to become the first person in program history to receive the award on the women’s side, while Walker earned the Track Performer of the Week.

True freshman Thiam wasted no time putting her name into multiple record books over the weekend after placing second overall in the women’s shotput with the second-farthest throw in program history at 16.62-meters. Thiam also placed first among all conference opponents in the event, while setting a new U20 Belgium National record on her second attempt in the event. Her mark ranks first in the ACC and 12th in the nation.

Walker opened her final collegiate season with a win in the women’s 200 with a new personal-best and the fifth-fastest time in program history at 23.15. Walker’s time stands first in the ACC and third in the nation.
