PSG have repeatedly turned to FC Barcelona for reinforcements over the last decade, building a clear pattern between the two clubs. Neymar Jr. and Ousmane Dembélé are among the most notable players to make the move from Catalonia to Paris.

With Luis Enrique at the helm and possessing deep knowledge of Barcelona’s structure and youth pipeline, that strategy appears set to continue. The latest player to follow that path is teenage forward Dro Fernández.

According to L’Equipe, Fernandez has signed a contract with PSG that runs through 2030 after the club triggered the €6 million release clause in the deal. The report notes that the reigning UEFA Champions League winners acted decisively to secure the signing.

Sky Sport Germany’s Florian Plettenberg adds that Enrique and PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi were instrumental in convincing Fernandez to join the project, with a medical expected in the near future.

Amid this reporting that PSG are taking another Barcelona player, Robin Bairner, chief editor at Football Transfers, shared one major concern for the capital club despite landing a promising player.

“But the way he kind of forced his way out of Barcelona or the way he’s leaving Barcelona, there’s kind of echoes of Xavi Simons there, and that concerns me a little bit,” Bairner said on the latest Ensemble PSG Podcast.

“It’s not a side of his character that I had heard about, but we know about Simons from his time at PSG and not necessarily the trouble that he caused but, you know, there was a bit of unrest there in the end, and even the way he ended up leaving Leipzig last summer was sort of full of red flags.

“So you know, I just wonder just a little bit about his attitude. That’s the main question I’ve got for him at the moment, particularly. You have to be quite brash and quite bold to go to Barcelona and say, ‘Yeah, I’m leaving you.’ I mean, PSG are a great club, don’t get me wrong, superb club, Champions League winners, but at the same time, Barcelona is Barcelona.

“They’re not a club that you leave lightly. So it’ll be interesting to see how that side of his character develops and what sort of impression we get on him over the Next six or 18 months as his PSG career hopefully grows and flourishes.”
