During LIV Golf’s off-season, Sergio Garcia appears to be working as an informal recruiter for the league.
The Spaniard was among the first wave of players to leave the PGA Tour, making the move to LIV in June 2022. He has since picked up two wins in the breakaway league.
Garcia has always been a vocal supporter of LIV and continues to back his decision to make the switch from the PGA Tour.
Heading into 2026, there are signs he is looking to strengthen his Fireballs GC roster for next year.
However, it seems one rising star turned down his approach without much hesitation.
Golfer with limited PGA Tour experience turns down LIV offer
LIV Golf have had a tough time this off-season.
Several PGA Tour players, including Akshay Bhatia, Si Woo Kim, and Sungjae Im, have turned down moves to the league.
Brooks Koepka has also left LIV to return to the PGA Tour.
And now the Saudi-backed league has taken another hit.
Speaking to Today’s Golfer, Angel Ayora shared that Garcia had reached out about a possible move to LIV and a spot with Fireballs GC.
He said: “I had the chance to go there.
“I told [Garcia] it was a pleasure for me to be a part of his team, but I told him my dream is to play on the PGA Tour, so I’m going to try to keep this path.
“I want to be at the top 50 in the world and I want to play the majors and everything, so I think the right path for me is to stay here on DP and trying to get a PGA Tour card and play there.
“That’s what I want to do, so I’m going to fight for that.”
How Angel Ayora has fared in his four PGA Tour events
Ayora, who is 21 years old, has participated in only four PGA Tour events to date. In 2025, his appearances included the Puerto Rico Open, the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, and the ISCO Championship.
He missed the cut in New Orleans but finished T-50 and T-59 at the other two tournaments.
Ayora also played at the Puerto Rico Open in 2024, where he finished in 72nd place.
So while he has only missed one cut from those four events, there have not been any headline results yet. Still, he is young and highly regarded within the game.
Ayora is considered one of golf’s rising talents, and it looks like he wants to reach that level by sticking with the PGA Tour path for now.
