Stellenbosch FC winger Devin Titus has thrown his weight behind head coach Gavin Hunt to change the club's fortunes in the second round of the 2025/26 campaign.
The experienced mentor was appointed in December 2025, succeeding Steve Barker, who left for Tanzanian giants Simba SC to end an eight-year stay at the club.
Stellies find themselves in an unfamiliar territory as they sit 14th on the Betway Premiership table - three points above the relegation zone and a point clear of the PSL Promotion/Relegation spot.
Now, Titus has backed Hunt to turn the tide in the Cape Winelands, citing the four-time South African champion's credentials.
“For me, I feel like it's quite a refreshing moment, obviously coach Steve gave me my first start but Gavin Hunt just brings a bit of fresh air to Stellenbosch. The style he plays is somewhat the Stellenbosch way and he's trying to implement that in the players,” he said.
"Steve Barker is the one who gave me my debut, so I'm very grateful to him and it was quite sad to see him leave, but I know there's better and greater things for him.
"With Gavin Hunt coming in it's a bit refreshing. The style of football he plays and all the accolades and matches that he has under his belt - I know he will give us that push we needed.
On penning a new long-term deal with Stellenbosch despite interest in his services, including from Al Masry SC of Egypt, the speedy forward expressed excitement at remaining at his boyhood club.
“I'm very happy to be at Stellenbosch, it's my boyhood club, they gave me my first start when no other team wanted me. I'm just grateful and happy to be at Stellenbosch,” Titus added.
"It's my boyhood club and I'm very loyal to the people who are loyal to me, so I just wanted to show my loyalty to them even more.
Stellenbosch return to action with a Betway Premiership clash against Sekhukhune United at Peter Mokaba Stadium, in what will be Hunt's first match in charge of the team.
