The Las Vegas Raiders have made no shortage of changes ahead of the 2025 NFL season under new general manager John Spytek and head coach Pete Carroll. This included the departures of both starting safeties, Tre'Von Moehrig and Marcus Epps, in free agency.
Before training camp practices began on Wednesday afternoon, the team signed veteran safety Jamal Adams. Star defensive end Maxx Crosby reacted to this news in a press conference after the team's first practice.
"He's dynamic, (he) flies around. He's got the right type of energy," Crosby said. "It's like everybody else, keep stacking days and show up with positive energy. I think he's going to help us."
Adams is an eight-year NFL veteran who played for four different NFL franchises prior to his arrival in Las Vegas. He spent four seasons under Carroll with the Seattle Seahawks before playing for both the Tennessee Titans and Detroit Lions in 2024.
He had three consecutive Pro Bowl and All-Pro campaigns from 2018 to 2020, but has not played more than 12 games in a season since. In fact, Adams has only played 27 games over the last four years.
All told, Adams has 501 tackles, including 50 for a loss, as well as 21.5 sacks, four interceptions, 36 passes defended, seven forced fumbles and four fumble recoveries to his name in the NFL.
Maxx Crosby thinks Jamal Adams will help Raiders in 2025
His best seasons were with Carroll in Seattle, where he was utilized less in a traditional safety role and more as a box player, whether that be an outside linebacker or a slot cornerback.
Adams will compete with players like Jeremy Chinn and Isaiah Pola-Mao for playing time if the team decides to play him at safety. If he leans more toward the linebacker spot, he'll have to beat out players like Amari Gainer, Devin White and Cody Lindenberg.
Training camp will be a crucial period for Adams, as he is already behind players who have been with the team throughout the offseason. Adams will get his first live action against his old team, the Seahawks, on August 7 in the Raiders' first preseason tilt.
