The Iowa women’s basketball team is now at 7-0 in the Big Ten, including Sunday night’s win over No. 15 Michigan State. At 16-2 overall, the Hawkeyes are ranked No. 10 in the country.
While the Hawkeyes have a young roster, they have received strong senior leadership from Hannah Stuelke. She has scored in double digits in eight of the last nine games.
“I’ve been feeling great, doing a lot of recovery because I realize that I’m old now,” Stuelke said. “It’s crazy but, yeah, I think these higher energy games give us a lot of fuel, especially at home, and it’s been great.”
“Hannah has had the leadership for our team that we needed to push through this,” said Ava Heiden, Iowa’s sophomore center. “Our guards willed the way is something that Coach J said. We were working together, picking each other up, and I think when those moments got tense, ya know, there was never a doubt in our minds. We were just pushing forward.”
“(Hannah) just works really hard and is battling. A lot of the time she is in there battling with the bigs, but this senior year, early, I think she felt a little bit of the tightness and the sentimentality.” said Jan Jensen, Iowa women’s basketball’s head coach. “Then she just kind of freed up and now she is just doing it with her actions, she’s talking more. Even on the floor she was trying to direct them.”
