Joao Gomes has emerged as a surprise target for Manchester United as the club looks to strengthen its midfield. The Brazilian has impressed at Wolves with his energy, pressing, and tactical intelligence, making him a potential fit for Carrick’s evolving system.

Reports suggest United have added him to their shortlist alongside the likes of Adam Wharton, Carlos Baleba, and Elliot Anderson as part of a planned midfield rebuild for the summer.

Gomes, who has also attracted interest from Napoli and Atletico Madrid, could cost a significant fee, but United’s focus on athletic and technically proficient midfielders makes him an appealing option. With Liverpool no longer in the race, United could have a clearer path if they decide to move for the 22-year-old in the coming months.

Victor Osimhen still open to Manchester United move

Despite his recent move to Galatasaray, Victor Osimhen remains open to a Premier League switch, and Manchester United could yet reignite their long-standing interest. The Nigerian striker, who joined Galatasaray for around £65m after a prolific stint with Napoli, has reportedly expressed interest in joining United should they make a formal approach.

Rio Ferdinand recently claimed that Osimhen would be “100 per cent” open to the move, describing him as the kind of physical, explosive forward who could transform United’s attack.

However, with Galatasaray now valuing their star forward at around £121m, any potential deal would depend heavily on United’s willingness to make a substantial financial commitment. Carrick’s emphasis on long-term squad balance could mean the club approaches this one with caution, though Osimhen remains firmly on their radar.

Sam Mather leaves Manchester United for Turkey

Manchester United have confirmed the departure of academy forward Sam Mather, who has joined Turkish side Kayserispor on a permanent transfer. The 19-year-old, who came through United’s youth ranks, made a strong impression at the U21 level but now seeks regular senior football to continue his development.

As the transfer window progresses, Manchester United’s strategy appears clear — secure dynamic players who fit Carrick’s system, maintain flexibility with future signings, and allow young talents to pursue growth opportunities beyond Old Trafford.
