Gable Steveson set to fight 14-fight MMA veteran in Mexico

Elite MMA heavyweight prospect books next fight

Heavyweight prospect Gable Steveson faces his most experienced opponent to date in MMA when he faces off with Hugo Lezama at Mexico Fight League in Monterrey, Mexico, on Feb. 19, the promotion announced Sunday.

Mexico Fight League 3 takes place at Showcenter Complex and airs live on Youtube.

Steveson is 2-0 in MMA, but has caught the attention of the sport before even making his debut. The youngest American to ever win Olympic gold medal in wrestling is also a two-time NCAA champion, and has won his two MMA bouts by knockout in a combined time of 2:02.

A protégé under UFC legend Jon Jones, the 25-year-old sensation also won a Dirty Boxing bout in just 15 seconds, with all three of his fights happening in a span of just 10 weeks.

“Pandemonium” Lezama holds a professional MMA record of 11-3, capped off by a successful defense of the Budo Sento Championship heavyweight title in his latest bout in November 2024. The Mexican fighter has scored nine of his 11 wins by stoppage with five knockouts and four submissions.
