Maryland track and field kicked off its indoor season at the Nittany Lion Challenge in University Park, Pennsylvania over the weekend, with several athletes making waves and setting high bars for themselves.
But none set a standard higher than runner Maya Valmon, who stole the spotlight with a program-record 37.29-second 300 meter dash.
Valmonâs time was first among the 24 competitors and nearly two seconds faster than the next-fastest runner.
The graduate student â and daughter of head coach Andrew Valmon â has been a standout in her short career in College Park. This is now the seventh school record that Valmon holds outright or as part of a relay team.
Marylandâs next meet comes in a weekâs time: they will compete in the Dr. Sander Scorcher Invitational in New York City.
