Browns QBs breakdown, training camp Day 4 | Dillon Gabriel adds to first-unit snaps

The Browns four-way QB battle included more 11-on-11 reps Dillon Gabriel with the first two groups. Here's a closer look at the day.

BEREA — The Browns' four quarterbacks will get their first day off of training camp on July 27. They couldn't get there until they got through a relatively quick morning practice on July 28.

The fourth day of training camp meant the first morning practice. Coming on the heels of the longest practice of camp so far, it was a crisp 70 minutes or so for the Browns on the field before heading into a Sunday off their feet.

For the four quarterbacks, it was a lot of work in the red-zone, both in seven-on-seven and 11-on-11 drills. The two most notable things in terms of rep distribution was that rookie Dillon Gabriel had his second 11-on-11 series with the first-unit players as well as in seven-on-seven work both full-field and in the red-zone, while Shedeur Sanders worked by himself on a separate field during a modified red-zone seven-on-seven period while Joe Flacco and Gabriel worked on another field.

As for Kenny Pickett, he was up first in a true seven-on-seven period, as well as the 11-on-11 periods both from the defense's 35 and the red-zone, while not working in the modified red-zone seven-on-seven. Neither Flacco nor Sanders worked in the final red-zone 11-on-11 period, while Flacco wasn't a part of the 11-on-11 from the 35.

Here's a look at what each of the four quarterbacks did during those group and team periods.

Joe Flacco's Browns training camp highlights July 26

  • Flacco went second in the seven-on-seven period following the conclusion of individual drills.
  • The veteran was 2-of-4 in the series, with one to tight end Harold Fannin Jr. and one to Luke Floriea.
  • Recently-signed rookie Winston Wright Jr. dropped a perfectly-place back-shoulder throw on the second play of the series.
  • Flacco was first up against the first defensive secondary in modifield seven-on-seven from the 15.
  • Flacco completed his first two passes for scores to Jamari Thrash and Jerry Jeudy. His final two throws were a pass too high in the end zone and one too long to Jeudy.

Dillon Gabriel's Browns training camp highlights July 26

  • Gabriel was front and center throughout the morning, starting with three seven-on-seven plays with the first unit.
  • The rookie went 0-for-3 on those plays, with the closest thing to a completion being a low throw to DeAndre Carter. He was too high on a slant and too long on a pass to a wide-open Jeudy.
  • Gabriel went third in the 11-on-11 period from the 35. His three plays included a running play, a completion on a crossing route to Gage Larvadain and a pass that sailed too high.
  • The third-round pick went after Flacco with first-unit players in the red-zone modified seven-on-seven, going 2-for-4.
  • Gabriel had a touchdown to Carter and hit Jeudy on a dump-off. Fannin couldn't quite pull in an out route on the first pass, and safety Ronnie Hickman broke up his final pass.
  • Gabriel was first up in the 11-on-11 in the red zone, completing two passes out of four attempts. One was a dump-off to running back Dylan Sampson and the other on an out to Fannin.
  • Gabriel went 1-for-2 in a brief post-practice "hungry dog" series with other rookies and unproven players.

Cleveland Browns quarterback Dillon Gabriel (5) hands off to running back Ahmani Marshall (39) during NFL training camp practice at the Cleveland Browns training facility, Wednesday, July 23, 2025, in Berea, Ohio.

Kenny Pickett's Browns training camp highlights July 26

  • Pickett got plenty of work with the first unit in both full-field seven-on-seven and 11-on-11 from the 35, He went second in the 11-on-11 in the red zone.
  • Pickett was 1-of-5 in the opening seven-on-seven series, completing a deep curl to Jeudy. Three of his passes appeared to be broken up by defenders.
  • Pickett completed two passes to Fannin out of five 11-on-11 plays from the 35. He was pressured and ran on his only other attempt.
  • In the red-zone 11-on-11, PIckett had two of his best throws of camp. He stepped up away from pressure to hit tight end Brendan Bates for a touchdown, then rolled out to the right and finished his five-play set with a touchdown to tight end Blake Whiteheart.
  • Pickett also kept the ball on a designed quarterback counter, while also completing a pass to Cade McDonald.

Shedeur Sanders' Browns training camp highlights July 26

  • Sanders worked with the twos for three full-field seven-on-seven plays. He completed all three of his passes, the last of those a nifty corner touchdown pass to Larvadain.
  • The rookie was second up in 11-on-11 from the 35, with his only completion in four plays was a curl for a touchdown to Floriea.
  • Cornerback Chigozie Anusiem broke up a curl route on his final pass of the series. He also had to keep on a bootleg to the right.
  • Sanders received eight plays on a separate field during red-zone modified seven-on-seven. He threw a pair of touchdowns, one to McDonald and the other to Diontae Johnson.
  • Twice Sanders was forced to keep it due to tight coverage and good pressure.
  • Twice Sanders had to dump it off to fullback Troy Hairston because of coverage.
  • Sanders had to scramble on his two "hungry dog" plays post-practice.
