Carson Beck reflects on one of his best decisions: Leaving Georgia

Miami Hurricanes quarterback Carson Beck will play for a national championship on Monday night. Are Georgia fans cheering for him?

Former Georgia Bulldogs quarterback Carson Beck will play on college football's biggest stage on Monday, Jan. 19 as the Miami Hurricanes play the Indiana Hoosiers in the national championship. Of course, Beck has already played in a national championship game during his time at Georgia. However, his only national championship action came in garbage time of Georgia's dominant 65-7 win over TCU.

Beck will be front and center on Monday night. He is playing against Heisman-winning quarterback Fernando Medonza, who considered transferring to Georgia, and will need to have one of the best games of his career.

Beck is playing in his sixth season of college football. After five years with Georgia, Beck decided he needed a change. Originally, he planned to enter the NFL draft, but later he opted to return for another year and transferred to Miami. Things have worked out alright for Beck at Miami despite him having a lengthy recovery from an elbow injury he suffered in the 2024 SEC championship and the Hurricanes suffering a pair of midseason losses.

"You made one of the best decisions of your life," Beck said on his decision to leave Georgia. "And honestly back then that was impossible to see. I was sitting in a brace. I couldn't bend or straighten my elbow, better yet, throw a football.

"And to be in the moment and have this opportunity, I am so grateful. I am so thankful that, you know, God has blessed me in this way and given me this opportunity to play quarterback."

Beck will play in the final chapter of his college career at 7:30 p.m. ET on Monday, Jan. 19 in the national championship against Indiana (televised on ESPN). Most Georgia fans probably won't be cheering for Beck and that's okay.
