Once touted as Marco Reus' successor at Borussia Dortmund, Giovanni Reyna has seen a harsh fall from grace at Signal Iduna Park. The USMNT star has failed to make the most of his opportunities at the club and could be out of the club in the coming weeks.
According to reports, Reyna has already agreed with Serie A side Parma over a potential transfer, with the Italian side keen on signing the midfielder. However, their plans might have taken a slight dent with reports suggesting Dortmund are less than pleased with the offer on the table for the player.
According to Italian media outlet ParmaSport, Dortmund have put a $12 million price tag on Giovanni Reyna and is adamant on not selling him for a penny less. Meanwhile, Parma, who have tabled a $9 million bid for the midfielder, do not feel comfortable with the asking price and are currently in negotiation with the German side over a compromise that suits both clubs.
What's next for Gio Reyna if Parma move fails
If Reyna and his camp alongside Parma can fail to convince Dortmund over a transfer this summer, the USMNT will be free to leave the club next season as a free agent. However, with the World Cup on the horizon, the midfielder will be desperate for game time in a bid to impress Mauricio Pochettino to secure his place in the USMNT Playing XI.
Reyna has failed to deliver up to expectations during his time at Signal Iduna Park, with injuries playing a huge role in derailing his career. The American, in his 147 career appearances for the German side, has managed just 19 goals and 18 assists, which do little to help his case.
AC Milan had earlier shown interest in the player during the January transfer window, but could not get Dortmund to budge from their $18 million asking price. While the German club have now dropped their demand with Reyna in the final year of his contract, the Rossoneri seem to have moved on, leaving Parma as the American's only hope for consistent game time.
