Former Sweden footballer Kristoffer Olsson has made his comeback on the pitch following a severe brain illness.
The 30-year-old played on Saturday for Swedish second-division club IK Sleipner in a friendly match against Österåker United, even scoring a goal, according to the Swedish news agency TT.
In February 2024, Olsson was diagnosed with an extremely rare inflammation of the brain's blood vessels, which caused several small blood clots in his brain.
He had suddenly lost consciousness at home and was initially placed on artificial ventilation for an extended period in hospital while medical experts searched for a diagnosis for his acute brain condition.
He was later transferred to a rehabilitation centre for neurological diseases, where he gradually regained his motor and verbal abilities.
Earlier this year, Olsson and his then-club Danish side FC Midtjylland agreed to terminate his contract. IK Sleipner is his youth club and he wanted to be close to home.
