With the July 31 trade deadline less than a week away, a number of MLB players could find themselves in new homes; perhaps the missing piece for a team looking to make a postseason run.

St. Louis Cardinals gold glove third baseman Nolan Arenado has long been the subject of trade talk. Ever since he used his no-trade clause to squash a move to the Houston Astros in the offseason, the 34-year old slugger continues to be mentioned as a player that could be dealt.

"I will. I haven’t, but that’s something we will have a good understanding of as we enter that final week (before the Trade Deadline),” Cardinals president of baseball operations John Mozeliak told MLB.com of asking Arenado about his wishes to either stay in St. Louis. “Right now, I would envision him being a part of this in the future, but if something were to pop up, I would definitely discuss it with him.”

In the midst of all the trade chatter, Arenado is quietly enjoying what is shaping up to be a historic season. Not necessarily at the plate, where he's slashing .244/.302/.384, well below his career average of .283/.340/.509. But at the hot corner.

In 86 starts at third base this season, the 10-time gold glover has registered 172 assists, 62 putouts, turned 21 double plays and made only three errors. Arenado's .987 fielding percentage leads all major league third basemen with at least 85 starts at the position. To put it in perspective, he registered a .980 fielding percentage in 2019 with the Colorado Rockies, the best of his career during a full season at third base.

Perhaps even more impressive, Arenado is currently in the midst of an errorless streak that dates back to April 25. That's an eye-popping 62 games without an error, the second-longest streak of his career per Elias Sports.

Should he continue his stellar defensive play, Arenado could not only break his personal errorless-game streak, but perhaps reach the unthinkable. No third baseman in the history of baseball has gone 100 games without an error.

Arenado is also trending towards an 11th gold glove award, which would break a tie with Mike Schmidt for the most gold glove awards by a third baseman in the National League.
