BROOKINGS, S.D. (KELO) — The SDSU women’s basketball team is preparing to welcome three new jackrabbits into the family as three coaches are expecting little ones this year. The three coaches have leaned on each other through their unique journey.

Assistant coaches Sadie Thramer and Macy Stanage are expecting their little ones in May, but Coach Kacie Jones is expecting sooner as her due date is January 26th. Each took turns to share the big news with the staff and teams.

“I told the staff and they were really excited. I remember after practice I just remember being like, “I have one more thing guys, Steven and I are expecting,” And I remember them jumping up and down and giving me a big hug. The support that we have from girls, from the staff, and everyone,” assistant coach Macy Stanage said.

With two first time moms in coaches Kacie and Macy, they’re leaning on coach Sadie, who is expecting her third child in her 10th year of coaching, her fifth at SDSU.

“There’s just like little tips and tricks you can do or eat something different or drink different or certain medications, things like that. You kind of don’t know what to expect. Everybody’s body is different, but she’s been really good to lean on,” assistant coach Kacie Jones said.

The three coaches say head coach Aaron Johnston has been supportive and he says their journey is inspiring to the student athletes.

“If you find a really good spot and people that value the same thing you value, you can have a great family and you can have a great career. So, all three of them have been great leaders for our team. And they will now as they either grow or start new families,” head coach Aaron Johnston

And the trio of expecting moms are honored to be role models for the team and their little ones.

“How fortunate am I and my family to have awesome role models in of the players and then whole fully our staff as role models for our players as well. So, my kids get to look up to them, they get to look up to us. So, it’s a full circle moment when we have these kinds of things happen,” assistant coach Sadie Thramer said.

For coaches Kacie and Sadie the genders of their babies are a surprise, but for Macy she will be having a girl expected on May 7th.
