Puckett was presented the award before tonight’s basketball game, along with a $500 college scholarship, courtesy of Austintown Financial Center.
“Obviously as a kid you dream big but this I mean, this is special,” Puckett said. “I don’t think I’ve ever imagined this, but it’s just really special. I’m really grateful for it all.”
The senior quarterback threw for 2,016 yards and 27 touchdowns this season, completing over 66% of his passes. He was also named to the WKBN Big 22 Class of 2025 and First Team All-State.
Puckett helped lead the Blue Devils to 13 consecutive wins along with the program’s first undefeated regular season since 2018. McDonald also clinched the MVAC Scarlet Tier title and finished their season in the Division VII State Final Four.
This marks the third season for the MVCA’s Player of the Year award. Struthers tailback Anthony Carter took home the inaugural award in 2023, followed by Ursuline quarterback DC Ferrell in 2024.
