While it may surprise some college football fans, there is something quietly human about Devin Brown's latest decision.
The former ESPN 300 QB is not just transferring to Weber State. He is returning to Utah, the place where his football journey first took shape, and reuniting with a coach who knew him long before recruiting rankings and NIL valuations defined the sport.
After stints with the Ohio State Buckeyes and the California Golden Bears, Brown will now suit up for the Weber State playing under head coach Eric Kjar, who is his former high school head coach.
Brown’s rise began at Corner Canyon High School, where he developed into one of the most prolific quarterbacks Utah has produced. As a senior, Brown threw for nearly 5,000 yards, accounted for more than 60 total touchdowns, and earned Utah HS Player of the Year honors. That breakout season launched him onto the national stage and into one of college football’s deepest quarterback rooms at Ohio State.

In Columbus, Brown learned patience and preparation, appearing in games while absorbing the demands of the position at the highest level. He later transferred to Cal, where he gained meaningful snaps and experience while navigating another competitive depth chart in a Power Four environment.
Now, at Weber State, Brown joins a program led by someone who already understands how he learns, how he leads, and what brings out his best. The familiarity brings comfort but also accountability. Expectations are already clear, and so is the responsibility that comes with them.
