Recruiting Reset: Michigan’s Elijah Dotson Highlights Mizzou’s Secondary

Mizzou Football has landed the commitment of Michigan CB Elijah Dotson. He might be the biggest get of the offseason.

While Mizzou Football’s transfer portal strategy may be questionable this offseason — Eli Drinkwitz and the staff were still able to land some high-profile players.

Michigan cornerback Elijah Dotson is certainly one of those additions. As a former four-star, top-100 recruit out of high school, Dotson put up a productive freshman season with the Wolverines. His stats might not jump out, but he made some plays from time-to-time and the talent shows.

In his first Big Ten game of his career, he had a season-high four total tackles on the road in a win at Nebraska.

Missouri was able to beat Texas A&M for Dotson’s transfer portal recruitment making this a high-level addition to the 2026 roster. Dotson was also ranked the No. 2 player in the state of Michigan’s Class of 2025 behind Bryce Underwood for a reason. A star in the making.

What does Dotson bring to the table for Mizzou?

Where He Fits

Definitely in Mizzou’s secondary — but Dotson is flexible and talented enough that he can play both the safety and cornerback positions. He was recruited as a safety, but Michigan moved him to cornerback this past season. Either way, Dotson will be able to play a key role in the backfield. We’ll see how the coaching staff utilizes him.

When He Plays

Right away as this has the potential of becoming an immediate impact addition. After earning some valuable playing time with Michigan as a freshman, the talent and experience that Dotson provides should have him compete for a starting job throughout spring football and preseason practice. The question becomes how Dotson will adjust in coverage against SEC playmaking wide receivers.

What It Means

Eli Drinkwitz and the staff are making the secondary a priority in the transfer portal — considering there’s been six additions so far this offseason. There’s no question that the secondary struggled last season against high-level quarterbacks like LaNorris Sellers and Ty Simpson.

Mizzou is looking for major improvement at the cornerback and safety positions — and Elijah Dotson might be the biggest get. That’s saying something when the Tigers have already brought in Oregon’s Jahlil Florence, Notre Dame’s Jadon Blair — just to name a few.
