Prosecutors: Ex-Hamburg official Kuntz withdraws criminal complaint

Former SV Hamburg board member for sport Stefan Kuntz has withdrawn a criminal complaint on stalking accusations, the Hamburg prosecutor's office confirmed to dpa on Friday. A spokeswoman confirmed an earlier report from the Hamburger Morgenpost paper but said the investigation would continue regardless because it concerned a possible criminal offence liable to public prosecution.

The prosecution office had on Thursday said that Kuntz filed the complaint on December 12 "against persons unknown on the grounds of stalking."

It was not known why Kuntz has withdrawn the complaint. His lawyers have been approached for comment.

The SV Hamburg supervisory board said on Monday that the departure of Kuntz had to do with misconduct allegations. The club originally said that he left on December 31 for family reasons.

Kuntz has dismissed the allegations, with a statement on his Instagram page saying: "First of all, I would like to say that these accusations hit me hard. One thing is clear: I categorically reject these accusations!"
