Jordan Spieth has put in the hard yards over the offseason, looking to turn things around after another disappointing year on the course.
However, 2025 brought more of the same struggles. It was another season where consistent form eluded him.
Spieth only managed four top-10 finishes all year and was never really in the mix at any of the majors.
After another year that fell short of expectations, he decided it was time for a change.
And he recently spoke about what he has been focusing on during the break.
Jordan Spieth believes he has made a ‘big’ swing change ahead of the 2026 PGA Tour season
Spieth is currently playing in the opening event of the 2026 PGA Tour season, the Sony Open in Hawaii.
Before play got underway, he shared more about his offseason approach in an interview published on the PGA Tour website.
“I haven’t swung it well for the better part of 10 years, which is wild. You gotta feel like you’re moving something 10 inches to move it an inch.
“So then you stand over a shot, and you have a pin tucked by water right, and you have to feel like you’re going to swing in the middle of the water, and you’re just not going to do that.
“Because you’re going to do it once and it will go in the middle of the water, and you’re going to be like, ‘What the heck?’ It has to work slowly sometimes,” he explained.
Spieth also touched on what part of his game he has focused on bringing back up to scratch and how he has gone about trying to do it.
He said: “I’m trying to get my hands in a deeper place at the end of the backswing, which is pretty similar to any good ball striking period of my career, and I haven’t done that in seven-plus years.
“It’s a decent adjustment, as well as figuring out where the shaft is taken back while my hands go back that way, and then how it comes out. I’m going back in time to just DNA-type stuff that I used to do really well.”
The Jordan Spieth comeback would be fantastic for golf fans
If the 32-year-old can recapture something close to his best form, it would be a massive boost for professional golf.
Spieth’s peak did not last long but was remarkable. In 2015, few players could match what he did over those 12 months. Still, it feels surprising how quickly things fell off afterward.
It would have seemed impossible then, but he is now more than likely to retire with a mere three majors.
He is not short on supporters either. Even without recent wins or majors since 2017, Spieth remains one of golf’s most popular figures – probably only behind Rory McIlroy globally.
If this new swing change can help him find some consistency again, there will be plenty rooting for him every step of the way throughout this season and beyond.
