ACC Roundup - Stunners From Stanford And SMU Are Wednesday’s Highlights

The ACC is soooo back

We’ll have a somewhat limited ACC Roundup today since the Duke-Cal game ended at around 1:00 A.M. Thanks, TV buddies!

In Wednesday’s ACC Action, in the boring game, Pitt beat Georgia Tech 89-66, SMU got a miracle against Virginia Tech to win 77-76 and Stanford came back to shock UNC 95-90.

We’ve been paying attention to Stanford freshman Ebuka Okorie and that kid is special. He racked up 36 points and 9 assists and really showed the heart of a champion. He really reminds us of what Purdue’s Matt Painter said about recruiting: once you get past the can’t-miss guys, everything else is a crapshoot.

Not this guy. He understands the game, he has talent and he has an immense desire to win.

Jeremy Dent-Smith came off the bench for 20 points in 21 minutes, hitting 7-8/6-7.

AJ Rohosy is not particularly athletic, but he didn’t back down inside and was a big asset for the Cardinal.

It was a huge win for Stanford and well deserved.

As for UNC, Hubert Davis will hear about this one. The Heels are not closing games out well.

In the SMU-Virginia Tech game, the Hokies were impressive most of the way through and ESPN listed the odds of Virginia Tech winning at 94.2% with :05 left.

Then Boopie Miller struck, hitting a running three just beyond halfcourt as time ran out. It was an all-time shot for SMU basketball we’re sure, and they’ll talk about it for years.

Like Duke, the Hokies shot poorly from the line, hitting just 11-18 (61%), which is going to drive Mike Young crazy for a couple of days. Former Blue Devil Jaden Schutt came off the bench for 15 points on 5-7/4-6 from the floor.

Finally, in the dull game of the night, Pitt beat up on Georgia Tech to a surprising degree.
The Yellow Jackets had 15 turnovers and didn’t shoot well, and that’s a bad combination.

Aussie Roman Siulepa, who started the season kind of slow, has reached double figures in his last six games.

No games until Saturday, but with Virginia at SMU, Miami at Clemson, UNC at Cal and Duke at Stanford, among others, it could be a great day.
