Former Germany women's captain Alexandra Popp has left her future at VfL Wolfsburg open.

"That's still in the back of my mind, I make no secret of that," the 34-year-old striker said in an interview to the Kicker magazine. "It's difficult to say whether this year would be the right time."

Her contract with Wolfsburg expires at the end of the season and she's been a target from Borussia Dortmund for a while.

Dortmund, however, are playing in the third-tier Regionalliga West and Popp said she doesn't want to make a hasty decision at this stage of her career.

"There are question marks in all directions. It's possible that I will remain in Wolfsburg. However, it's also possible that I will play elsewhere after this season or even stop playing altogether," she said.

The 2016 Olympic champion stressed, however, that "she feels very good physically."

Popp served the national team for 14 years and played 145 matches before retiring in 2024.

"I no longer have to bear a huge responsibility that I carried for many years. Of course, that affects me. I can play more freely now," she said.
