Everton are keen to sign a new striker and have made Youssef En-Nesyri of Fenerbahce their priority for this window.
While The Athletic claims that “Everton’s interest in En-Nesyri is not at an advanced stage and they are yet to make a formal bid for the forward”, transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano suggests that the Blues have already sent an offer for the Moroccan international.
“Everton send official bid to Fenerbahçe for Youssef En-Nesyri on initial loan with €20m buy option. Negotiations underway,” he posted on X.
The 28-year-old spent four years with Sevilla and scored 73 goals in 196 appearances for the Andalusian outfit, helping them win the Europa League twice. He signed for Fenerbahce in 2024 and has scored 38 goals for the Turkish club, including seven in 15 Super Lig matches this season.
En-Nesyri is currently representing Morocco at the Africa Cup of Nations. He has made 91 appearances for his national team so far, scoring 25 goals. He famously scored the only goal of the game against Portugal to send Morocco through to the semi-finals of the FIFA World Cup in 2022. It was the first time that an Arab and African team made it to the last four of the World Cup finals.
The Toffees’ struggles in front of goal have been well noted this season. Both Thierno Barry and Beto have scored three goals each so far this season.
Signed from Villarreal for an initial £27.7m this summer, Barry scored his first goal for the club in early December but has two goals in his last three Premier League matches.
Beto, meanwhile, has fallen down the pecking order and has come off the bench in the majority of games. He finished last season with eight Premier League goals - seven of which came in the second half of the campaign - but he’s yet to replicate that form.
