Blue Jays make late signing after MLB Draft of .978 OPS outfielder

A late UDFA addition.

Most undrafted free agents sign pretty quickly after the conclusion of the MLB Draft.

But it took nearly two weeks for the Toronto Blue Jays to land their latest addition.

Matt Scannell signed with the Blue Jays on Friday, according to Sportsnet's Zach Worden.

Scannell just completed his final college season, which he played with Wake Forest and put up a .978 OPS.

Before this spring, Scannell had played in the Ivy League for Princeton.

He's a lefty thrower in the outfield and also bats from the left side.

Scannell hit 37 homers across four college seasons. He also spent two summers in the Cape Cod League, although he batted only .202 across those two campaigns.

Originally from San Antonio, the 23-year old Scannell will get a chance to begin his professional baseball journey in the Blue Jays' organization.
