Friendly match in Belek against Red Star Belgrade
What lessons have our lads learned from the first two friendlies and nearly a week on their training camp? We'll see on Thursday 15 January at 17:00 local time (15:00 CET) in a final showdown in Belek against Red Star Belgrade.
There will be a free RBS TV live stream - with Stefan Lainer (first half) and Justin Omoregie (second half) joining us as co-commentators.
Worth knowing about Red Star Belgrade
- Crvena zvezda have been undisputed Serbian champions ever since 2017/18 and, with a total of 14 Serbian and 22 Yugoslav national league titles, is also Serbia's record champion – ahead of their arch-rivals Partizan (10 Serbian and 17 Yugoslavian championships). Currently, at the winter break, the big city rivals are one point ahead of Red Star.
- Several well-known have emerged from what is arguably Serbia's best youth academy: Nemanja Vidic, for example, once played there, and rising star Andrija Maksimovic recently transferred to RB Leipzig. Their current top scorer, Marko Arnautovic, is well known in Austria, and Aleksandar Dragovic also played at the Rajko Mitic Stadium until recently. Our Aleksa Terzic also came through their youth system.
- We have bad memories from the 2018/19 Champions League qualifiers, when we were eliminated by the Serbian powerhouse after two draws (0-0; 2-2) due to the away goals rule, which was still in effect at the time. The squandered 2-0 lead in the second leg was particularly frustrating.
- Our upcoming opponents are difficult to assess tactically, as they parted ways with coach Vladan Milojevic shortly before Christmas. However, his successor is likely familiar to many: Dejan Stankovic, the Belgrade-born former Inter Milan player.
