The captain-in-waiting has played with some luminous figures in his time at FC Bayern.
Joshua Kimmich was asked recently to name the best player he has shared the field with at Bayern Munich, and named one player from each level of the outfield before settling on his top choice.
“I thought Franck Ribéry was very spectacular, both in terms of what he could do and his mentality. Talent-wise, it was Thiago, he can do everything. But if I consider the whole package, it’s David Alaba,” Kimmich said in comments captured by Sport Bild (via @iMiaSanMia). “Player, person, mentality — besides his importance and reliability on the pitch, he was also very important in the dressing room, someone who got along with everyone, integrated everyone, helped everyone. I’ll take David.”
Now that is a fine choice. Alaba was a treasured figure in the Bayern locker room before his departure for Real Madrid. Of course, plenty of titans have walked through the halls at Säbener Straße, Kimmich himself among them. It is always interesting to hear how players themselves answer these questions, and the criteria they use to justify their response. Who’s your top pick?
