Rulani Mokwena's MC Alger secured their spot in the Algerian Cup quarter-finals after a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Ben Aknoun in the Round of 16 on Tuesday night.

The two teams were deadlocked for 90 minutes, forcing the match to go to extra time despite MCA's lion's share of ball possession.

Ivorian winger Kipre Zunon, 26, eventually broke the deadlock in the 96th minute, to ensure Mokwena's men progress to the next round.

MCA will face the winner between CS Constantine and former Orlando Pirates mentor Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic's ES Setif, with the match scheduled for Friday, 16 January.

Mokwena has been tasked with lifting domestic cup competitions, retaining the league title won by Khaled Ben Yahia last season, and reaching the latter stages of the CAF Champions League.
