Tottenham Hotspur Are In The Running To Land This Serie A Keeper: Decent Fit For Spurs?

In a recent report, AS Roma Live mentioned that Tottenham Hotspur are in the running to land Roma keeper Mile Svilar. It has been claimed that Spurs would have to rival Chelsea and Manchester United in the race to sign the Serbian talent this year.

Svilar’s Impressive Form In Italian Football

Svilar is having a solid campaign at the Italian club after he put in a string of impressive displays for them in Serie A. The Serbian keeper has conceded 17 goals and kept 11 clean sheets in 26 matches for Roma this season across all competitions.

The 26-year-old is currently among the best keepers in Serie A. He has even distributed the ball relatively well based on his pass success rate of 75.7% in the Italian first division (stats via fbref.com).

His current contract at the Italian club will run out in the summer of 2030, which could make it tough for Spurs to win the race for his services on the cheap this year.

Will Svilar Be A Decent Fit For Tottenham Hotspur?

Svilar can be a safe pair of hands in between the sticks when he is playing with confidence on the field. He is a good handler of the ball and can use his quick reflexes to make some crucial saves at the back for his team. Svilar is a tidy passer of the ball as well.

Standing at 1.89m, the Serbian talent is a strong presence in the air as well. However, there are some concerns over whether he can adapt to the physical side and high intensity of the Premier League if Spurs manage to bring him on board in this winter transfer window or next summer.

We can expect Svilar to bring more quality and depth to Tottenham head coach Thomas Frank’s backline. He is good enough to challenge Guglielmo Vicario for a regular first-team spot at the North London club in the coming years.

At 26, Svilar has his peak years ahead of him, which makes him a great fit for Tottenham to consider this January or at the end of this season. However, Frank has to give him some time to settle into life in England before he can get the best out of the talented keeper.
