Curt Cignetti is a Pittsburgh man.

And you may have heard: Pittsburgh needs a new head NFL coach after Mike Tomlin chose Tuesday to step away from the Steelers.

Could the Indiana Hoosiers' second-year coach be the man for the job?

Maybe not so fast.

College football insider Chris Vannini poured cold water on this idea on Tuesday afternoon.

"If you're wondering about Curt Cignetti and the Steelers, worth remembering that Tomlin, Bill Cowher and Chuck Noll were all 37 or younger when they got the Steelers job," Vannini posted on X. "Again, it would be very costly to hire him, and he's said he plans to retire at IU."

Cignetti has more important things on his plate. He's getting ready to coach IU in the national championship game against Miami.

It's a chance for the Hoosiers to go 16-0 and claim maybe the most improbable title in college football history.

Cignetti has done things his own way, which means that he could always make a decision that surprises people.

And on the one hand, Cignetti opting to return to his hometown to coach wouldn't be that crazy.

But at this point, there's no indication he would do so. And so until there is contrary reporting, Cignetti appears likely to stay in Bloomington.
