The Georgia Bulldogs have missed out on one of the fastest players in the transfer portal, who committed to the Texas Tech Red Raiders
The Georgia Bulldogs have missed out on one of their transfer portal targets in former Auburn Tigers wide receiver Malcolm Simmons, who has committed to the Texas Tech Red Raiders. Simmons was one of the fastest players available in the portal.
Simmons was one of several talented Auburn receivers to leave the Tigers this offseason along with Cam Coleman, who is ranked as a five-star transfer and committed to Texas. Simmons is a big-play threat and likely earned a significant name, image and likeness deal from Texas Tech, who is known for throwing around a lot of money to top transfers.
Simmons posted with 25 receptions for 457 receiving yards and two touchdowns in 2025. He also had four carries for 42 rushing yards and a touchdown. Simmons finished the 2025 season No. 15 in the country with an average of 18.3 yards per reception.
247Sports ranks Simmons as the No. 34 transfer receiver in the country and the No. 123 transfer overall. He's ranked as a four-star transfer.
Simmons' explosive speed should help the Texas Tech offense, which got shut out in the College Football Playoff. The 6-foot, 185-pound pass catcher posted at least 140 receiving yards and a touchdown in both of Auburn's final two games (vs. Mercer and vs. Alabama) of the 2025 season. Simmons has valuable experience as a punt and kickoff returner.
Five-star transfer quarterback Brendan Sorsby highlights Texas Tech's incoming transfer class, which features 16 commitments. The Red Raiders have the No. 9 transfer portal class in the country.
Georgia already has a commitment from top transfer receiver Isiah Canion (Georgia Tech) and the Bulldogs, who tend to rely less on the transfer portal, have the No. 32 incoming transfer class with six total commitments.
