Real Madrid Are Set To Rival Paris Saint-Germain For This Liverpool Defender: Decent Fit For Alonso?

In a recent report, journalist Mark Brus claimed that Real Madrid are set to rival Paris Saint-Germain for Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate this summer. It has been mentioned that Los Blancos are keeping a keen eye on the France international in this transfer window.

Konate’s Impressive Form At Merseyside Last Season

Konate enjoyed a decent run of form at the Merseyside club in the previous campaign when he put in a string of impressive performances at the heart of their defence. The 26-year-old made 42 appearances for Liverpool last season, scoring two goals and earning two assists in various competitions.

The French talent was a solid presence on the defensive end of the field as he made 40 tackles, 29 blocks and 17 interceptions in the Premier League. He was even accurate when distributing possession from the back after completing 90.2% of his attempted passes in the English top flight (stats via fbref.com).

His current contract at the Merseyside club will run out at the end of next season which could open the door for Los Blancos to sign him on the cheap this summer.

Is Konate A Decent Fit For Real Madrid Boss Xabi Alonso?

Konate loves a tackle and has got the pace to make some recovering runs at the back when required. He can sense the danger well to make some timely interceptions for his side inside his half.

The French sensation usually clears his lines when the opposition are on the offensive and is even proficient at playing his way out from the back. Standing at 1.94m, he can use his towering frame to dominate the opposition attackers in the air.

We can expect Konate to add more bite and steel to Real Madrid head coach Xabi Alonso’s defence. He is good enough to nail down a regular first-team spot at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium next season.

At 26, Konate has his peak years ahead of him which makes him a great fit for Los Blancos to consider in this transfer window. However, he might need some time to adapt to life in La Liga football. Still, Alonso would be wise to try everything in his power to lure him to the Madrid club ahead of the new season.
