Another addition for the Orange defense.
It’s another day, another transfer portal pickup for the Syracuse Orange on the defensive side.
Former UNLV edge rusher Tunmise Adeleye, who is coming off an honorable nention All-Mountain West campaign in 2025, is joining the Orange. Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports and Chris Hummer of 247Sports were the first to report.
Adeleye is entering the fifth year of his collegiate career. He finished this past season with 48 total tackles (19 solo), six sacks and three pass protections for the Rebels.
Syracuse will be Adeleye’s fifth college team in as many years. He initially committed to Texas A&M as a four-star recruit, according to 247Sports, over offers from dozens of teams. The full list included Ohio State, Alabama, Florida, Miami, Georgia, LSU, Michigan and Syracuse.
After playing in only two games with the Aggies during the 2022 season, Adeleye transferred to Michigan State and played sparingly in six games. The following year, he again played less than half the year (five games) with Texas State before finally breaking out in 2025 out west.
247Sports currently has Adeleye ranked as a three-star transfer, sitting at No. 600 overall and in the top-50 (No. 46) among defensive linemen.
Adeleye is the latest name Syracuse is bringing in to play in the trenches on defense. He’s joined by UT Martin edge rusher Keyshawn Johnson, Georgia State defensive tackle Jartavius Flounoy and Maryland defensive lineman Dillan Fontus.
Outside the transfers, the Orange will also have three-star DT Jaylen Pray plus a group of three-star defensive linemen (Eric Thomas, Nathan Nyandoro, Nissi Ogbebor, Elijah Crawford and DeAngelo Thompson) and three-star edge DeAngelo Thompson.
He is also the seventh defensive player and 14th overall player Syracuse has brought in from the portal this cycle. The rest of the additions include Boise State/Glendale CC wide receiver Zamondre Merriweather, South Carolina tight end Michael Smith, LSU running back Ju’Juan Johnson, Miami (OH) wide receiver Cole Weaver, Jackson State running back Ahmad Miller, Toledo linebacker Chris D’Appolonia, Florida State wide receiver Elijah Moore, Kennesaw State QB Amari Odom, Toledo defensive back Amare Snowden and Western Kentucky defensive back Nazir Ward.
