Good morning, Fear the Wall!
It is now the second week back to work. The fun is over, the holidays are a distant memory, and Bundesliga ball is back. Time to hunker down for four months of Black and Yellow, and hopefully no more than two months of winter. One thing we aren’t likely to see before the end of winter is transfers, at list not incoming. Pascal Groß has returned home to Brighton, and BVB are looking to Mussa Kaba and Salih Özcan to fill the gap. It seems BVB are building up inertia to what should be a busy and chaotic summer… until we “don’t have any money!”
Ugh.
BVB News
- Dortmund are intensifying their pursuit of Feyenoord midfielder Quinten Timber. Timber is definitely a talented player, and could be available on a free this summer. That said, do we need ANOTHER #8? Let’s see… Felix Nmecha, Marcel Sabitzer, Jobe Bellingham, Carney Chukwuemeka, Kjell Watjen. Okay maybe not eight but if you count Groß it’s at still six. Hmm, six… wonder why that number feels relevant.
- Jobe Bellingham has completed his suspension and will potentially return to the squad as early as Tuesday. Yes we have a game on Tuesday, we are both finding out right now, don’t worry.
- Algeria fell to Nigeria this weekend, ending their hopes of a second AFCON in the last five years. Dortmund can expect Ramy Bensebaini back in the squad soon.
- Nico Schlotterbeck kept the pressure off of his teammate Serhou Guirassy, whose foul and subsequent penalty put BVB on the back foot against Eintracht Frankfurt.
Bundesliga News
- Bayern Munich found their annual Mortal Kombat “fatality” opponent for the 2025/26 season, delivering an 8-1 obliteration to Wolfsburg. Oof.
- Dortmund were spared too much punishment for their draw, as a first-half quadruple from Stuttgart kept Leverkusen from closing the gap between second and third.
- The 2025/26 season is over for Victor Boniface, as is his time at Werder Bremen. The Nigerian striker will need another knee surgery, and honestly, I can’t imagine there is a path back for him. His knee looks like the site of a medieval battle.
Back to business on Tuesday, then! Bremen are winless in their last five, and missed the weekend match due to a snow-out. Will Dortmund make it six, or do some Dortmund-y stuff?
