With all five starters moving on from the 2025 team, Arizona has a tough task trying to replace the entirety of a secondary that was arguably the best in college football.
So far, though, the Wildcats are putting in their best effort to reload that unit.
Arizona has earned a commitment from further Charlotte cornerback Dwight Bootle II, the fourth defensive back picked up from the NCAA transfer portal and fifth overall in the past week.
The 5-10, 180-pound Bootle–whose older brother DiCaprio Bootle has played in the NFL–comes to the UA with two years of eligibility remaining. He spent last season with Charlotte after two at Nebraska, where he was a teammate of recent safety commit Malcolm Hartzog Jr.
Bootle started six games for Charlotte, recording 38 tackles with a fumble recovery. In 222 coverage snaps he allowed two touchdowns.
In addition to Bootle and Hartzog the Wildcats have also picked up ex-Wyoming cornerback Tyrese Boss and former Northern Colorado safety Cam Chapa from the portal and got a commitment from junior college corner Brandon Holmes.
They’ll join a secondary that brings back veterans Jay’Vion Cole and Gavin Hunter and talented youngsters including Coleman Patmon and Dajon Hinton. Hunter, Patmon and Hinton all started the Holiday Bowl after Dalton Johnson, Genesis Smith and Treydan Stukes opted out
