Liam Rosenior had just a couple of days with his new team to prepare for his first game in charge.

Now he’s got just another couple to prepare for Arsenal on Wednesday. Then another couple before Brentford on Saturday. It’s going to be like this for the rest of the season, and in the press conference last night they were asked about how he would use these precious few training sessions.

“Yeah, I’ve got another two days. No, I think the biggest thing I challenged the players on was our reactions to setbacks, our intensity. Nothing tactical, nothing technical,” Rosenior said.

“These players are outstanding. They’ve been well coached before me. I was very happy with the togetherness and the spirit of the group today. I was very happy with the intensity that they ran at, winning duels, winning headers, all of the basics. And that’s where you get your joy from.”

This continues the theme we saw from Rosenior in his initial interviews upon joining the club. He doesn’t want to focus on tactics just yet – that’s not been this team’s problem. The reason we’ve been dropping points is not tactics – at least not exclusively tactical. It’s more of a mental, confidence issue.

And that’s something he can work on with just a couple of days on the training pitch.

In other news…

Jorrel Hato got the opening goal last night, but his manager was impressed by more than just the sweet left footed strike from the Dutchman.

Chelsea left out three key players from their squad last night, and after the game Liam Rosenior was asked about their injury status and whether they were a doubt for next week’s game against Arsenal.
